The Snail of Approval Program

 

The Snail of Approval award is given by local chapters to food establishments based on evaluations in six areas:

Sourcing, Environmental Impact, Cultural Connection, Community Involvement, Staff Support, and Business Values.

Slow Food Metro North encourages any Westchester, Putnam, and Fairfield food business or organization that produces and/or offers food for public consumption, is pursuing and practicing Slow Food values of good, clean, fair food for all, and has been open for at least one year to apply. 

​

Interested businesses should apply below (30-45 minute application). Or, email metronorthny@slowfoodusa.org. Details of the application process are provided below.

      How Does the Application Process Work?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The Snail of Approval award is active for two years. Re-application is required after two years.

      Snail of Approval Application Process

  1. Nominees fill out the Eligibility Application. Applicants who score a passing score are eligible.

  2. If a passing score is not achieved, applicants can seek help from us who can assist in identifying ways to improve score.

  3. All applicants who pass will be contacted to participate in a 30 minute interview, to schedule a site visit, and/or provide partnerships references.

  4. Based on the Eligibility Application score, interview, references, and site visit, the panel will select awardees.

      go. The application is multiple choice and takes

      30-45 minutes to complete.

What is the Snail of Approval Program?

The Snail of Approval is SLOW FOOD USA’s way of publicly honoring local and regional food businesses that share a commitment to good, clean, and fair food for all.The program strives to create transparency for our area's citizens by awarding food establishments that live up to these ideals. 

    Who is eligible to receive a Snail of Approval?

Any food business or organization that produces and/or offers food for public consumption and is pursuing and practicing Slow Food values of good, clean, fair food for all. Restaurants and/or related businesses in Westchester, Putnam, and Fairfield counties open for at least one year and meet the criteria outlined in the Snail of Approval application.

      Who can Nominate a Business for a Snail?

Anyone in Westchester, Putnam or Fairfield counties can nominate. Do you know of an establishment embodying Slow Food’s values? Tell us! Email metronorthny@slowfoodusa.org with the business’s name, best contact, website (if applicable) and short summary of why you are nominating.
